Four September Email Marketing Ideas Every Esthetics Business Should Be Sending

There's something about September that feels like a fresh start.

As much as January gets all the attention, I honestly think I feel more motivated in September than I do at the beginning of the year. Summer is winding down, routines are returning, and people naturally start thinking about getting back on track.

Your clients are feeling that shift too.

They're settling back into school schedules, unpacking suitcases, getting back to work, and realizing that somewhere between vacations, late nights, and weekend getaways, their skincare routine quietly disappeared. The appointments they meant to book never happened, the products they loved have been sitting untouched on the bathroom counter, and they're finally ready to start prioritizing themselves again.

That's exactly why September is one of my favorite months for esthetics email marketing.

The mistake I see many estheticians make is sending an email that says, "Summer's over. Book your facial."

While there's nothing technically wrong with that message, it doesn't make anyone feel seen. It doesn't sound like it was written for a real person. It sounds like it was sent to everyone.

The best marketing always feels personal.

When someone opens your email, they should immediately think, "Wow... that's exactly me."

One of the easiest ways to do that is to picture one specific client while you're writing. Think about the conversations you've been having in your treatment room lately. What season of life are your clients in? What are they struggling with? What has their summer actually looked like?

For some clients, September represents the first quiet moment they've had in months. Maybe they've spent the entire summer driving kids to camps, planning family vacations, and making sure everyone else's schedule ran smoothly. Somewhere along the way, their own appointments disappeared from the calendar.

Instead of sending them another generic promotion, acknowledge that reality. Let them know it's okay that they've put themselves on the back burner for a while, and invite them to make time for themselves again. Featuring your monthly facial special or a treatment designed to help them ease back into a consistent skincare routine feels far more relevant than simply reminding them to book.

Other clients spent most of the summer living out of a carry-on suitcase.

Between flights, hotels, road trips, and weekends away, they simplified their skincare routine down to the basics. Now they're home, their skin feels dehydrated, congested, or simply "off," and they're wondering where to begin.

This is a great opportunity to recommend a few of your favorite products to help them rebuild a healthy routine. Rather than overwhelming them with a long list of recommendations, explain why you chose each product and how they work together. Educational emails like these naturally position you as the skincare expert while creating opportunities for retail sales.

Then there's the client who genuinely wants to improve her skin but feels completely overwhelmed.

She's watched the TikToks, saved Instagram posts, read skincare blogs, and somehow ended up more confused than when she started. Every creator seems to recommend something different, and now she's worried about making the wrong decision.

This is where your expertise becomes so valuable.

Use your email to remind her that she doesn't need to figure everything out on her own. Explain how a consultation or customized facial allows you to assess her skin, understand her goals, and create a treatment plan that's designed specifically for her. Sometimes your audience doesn't need more information. They need someone they trust to simplify it.

Finally, don't forget about the client whose skincare routine slowly disappeared over the summer.

There wasn't one big reason. Life simply happened.

Late nights turned into missed cleansing routines. Weekend trips meant products stayed packed in a travel bag. Before long, the consistency that had been giving them results quietly faded away.

Instead of making them feel guilty, encourage them to get back to the basics. Remind them that skincare doesn't have to be perfect to be effective. Often, returning to a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and one targeted treatment product is enough to help them feel back in control again.

What I love about these four email ideas is that they're all talking about the same thing, getting clients back into their skincare routine, but they're approaching it from completely different perspectives.

One speaks to the busy mom.

One connects with the traveler.

One reassures the overwhelmed client.

One supports the person whose routine simply fell apart.

That's what makes email marketing feel relevant instead of sounding like another reminder to book.

It's also why I'm such a big believer in segmenting and tagging your email list. The more you understand your audience, the easier it becomes to send emails that feel like personal conversations instead of mass announcements.

When your clients feel understood, they're far more likely to open your emails, trust your recommendations, and book that next appointment.
